What is Shockwave Therapy anyway?

What is Shockwave Therapy?

True shockwave therapy is the use of a medical grade electrical delivery device that conducts an electrical pulse through a specialized wand to stimulate multiple biological factors of healing to help speed up the normal healing process.  Below is a simple explanation of these healing processes.

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

Upon delivery of the electrical pulse from the Shock Wave device a host of biological healing processes are triggers at a cellular level. Patients experience the transformative benefits, including:

  • Temporary increase in blood flow

  • Promotion of new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis)

  • Improvement of long-term inflammation through modulation of inflammation

  •  Activation of stem cells

  • Restoration of tissue elasticity

  • Natural growth factor activation

Shockwave Therapy explained!

What medical grade machine do we use for our Shockwave Therapy?

We aim to use the newest in shockwave technology, and have decided to operate with ViaSure's Softwaves ™ technology.

ViaSure SoftWave’s patented parabolic reflector applicator design generates a primary and secondary shockwaves that spreads energy to a large area of both superficial and deep tissue. The flexible elastic membrane adapts optimally to the treatment area and solicits a biological response without causing trauma.

  • SoftWave’s device penetrates a 7cm x 12cm area with a TRUE SHOCK WAVE. Compared to 2cm x 2cm area for Radial which is NOT A TRUE SHOCK WAVE and 1cm x 12cm area for other focused devices.

For ViaSure's Softwaves patented machine a 6 treatment protocol is recommended for best results.  Treatments should be done approximately once a week for the first 4 treatments, then the last 2 treatments can be adjusted as per individual response to treatment with our machine.

What can Shockwave Therapy treat?

There are almost and endless use for medical grade shockwave therapy. Traditionally its use in the hospital system for a procedure called lithotripsy  often used to treat kidney stones. Along the way patients where wondering why their muscle-skeletal back pain resolved with the treatment of their kidney stones and it was found that  this type of shockwave therapy could be useful in multiple areas of the body! Musculoskeletal and Joint conditions

Focused shockwave therapy, or FSWT as explained above is an non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing and improving musculoskeletal disorders include but are not limited to:

  • Frozen Shoulder

  • Planters Fasciitis

  • Tendinopathies (tennis elbow or carpal tunnel)

  • MCL/ACL tears

  • Back pain including Sciatica

Women's Sexual Health
  • Female Sexual Arousal Disorder

  • Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder

-HSDD is characterized by a lack or absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity. Shockwave Therapy has been explored as a potential treatment by stimulating nerve tissue and promoting blood flow to the clitoral and vaginal areas, potentially improving sexual desire.

  • Postmenopausal Sexual Dysfunction

-Menopause can lead to various sexual health issues in women, including vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, and reduced sexual desire. Shockwave Therapy may help by increasing blood flow, rejuvenating tissues, and improving vaginal lubrication and elasticity.
